State of Iowa Technology Spending on the Rise

A new analysis by SLATE details $266M in technology spending in Fiscal Year 2022. This represents more than double IT expenditures in Fiscal Year 2016. The spending is being driven by professional services and software.

The table below demonstrates how spending in eight technology categories has changed over the past six years. All of the categories, excluding printing and related services ("Other"), have increased at least 41%. Services, Other Software, Network Hardware, and Network Software have all more than doubled over the time period.

Over the past six years, statewide technology spending has grown from $126M to $266M, illustrating the key role technology plays in government service delivery and the quickening pace of digital transformation.
